LGU Balamban commemorates today, March 17, 2023 the 66th death anniversary of President Ramon Magsaysay

Balamban local officials and some employees headed by Mayor Ace Stefan Binghay, together with the heads and members of the PNP,BFP, BJMP and DILG led a wreath-laying ceremony at a monument dedicated to the country’s seventh president at Mt. Manunggal, Barangay Sunog, Balamban, Cebu where the presidential plane “Mt. Pinatubo” crashed on March 17, 1957.
A prayer was offered for the souls of the late president and the 24 other passengers, including former Senator Tomas Cabili, a hero of the guerrilla resistance movement during World War II; Gregorio Hernandez Jr. Secretary of Education; Representative Pedro Lopez (1915–1957) of the 2nd District of Cebu; and General Benito Ebuen (1912–1957), commanding general of the Philippine Air Force. Also on board was former Olympian Felipe Nunag, then serving as an aide-de-camp to Magsaysay. The other passengers included various civilian and military aides to the President and three journalists. During the ceremony, Mayor Ace Stefan Veloso Binghay honored the late president as a leader worthy of emulation. President Ramon Magsaysay often described as a ” true man of the masses”, was known as an exceptional leader for his integrity, humility and dedication to public service.
The wreath-laying ceremony is just the first part of the 3-day Mt.Manunggal Annual Adventure Trek in honor of the late president.
LGU Balamban has lined-up activities for the weekend like the Campers Got Talent on Saturday night and on Sunday the Trail Run and Mt. Bike Challenge. All contests and activities are open to all.
